The Biblical Feasts are also called Holy Convocations, from the Hebrew “mikraeh kodesh”. They are Appointed Times when the Lord calls us to meet with Him.
All the Biblical Feasts point to the Messiah. The Spring Feasts prophesied of His first coming and the Fall Feasts prophesy of His second coming.
From the sunset of Sunday the 29th, until the sunset of Monday 30th we will celebrate Yom Teruah.
* Teruah (תרועה): alarm, signal, sound of tempest, shout, blast of war or joy.
The word teruah is related to a sound.
It can be a joyful sound as in Psalm 150.5 when we are invited to praise the Lord with the teruah as a way of rejoicing in Him with a loud noise.
“Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals (teruah)!”
It can be a sound of a cortege to receive the Presence of our King, as in 1 Chronicles 15.28:
“Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, (teruah) and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps.”
It can be a sound of an army in march as in Joshua 6.20:
“So the people shouted, and the trumpets were blown. As soon as the people heard the sound of the trumpet, the people shouted a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they captured the city.“
It can be an alarming sound as in Zephaniah 1.14-16:
“The great day of the Lord is near, near and hastening fast; the sound of the day of the Lord is bitter; the mighty man cries aloud there. A day of wrath is that day, a day of distress and anguish, a day of ruin and devastation, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and thick darkness, a day of trumpet blast and battle cry against the fortified cities and against the lofty battlements.”
Yom Teruah is the only feast that happens on a new moon, when the night is darker, the other feats happen on a full moon.
The Lord awares us of dark days, days of tribulation that will come to pass before his second coming.
His coming is related to the next Fall Feast called Yom Kippur.
After this I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven! And the first voice, which I had heard speaking to me like a trumpet, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.
Are we prepared to hear His voice, his alarm clock awakening us for what is about to come?
He is calling us for this Holy Convocation, to be prepared by Him.
In Luke 1.17 we read about John the Baptist:
“…and he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready for the Lord a people prepared.”
We want to be ready to receive Him, not being distracted by the deception of the enemy that is stealing the true purpose of this appointed time, even if this purpose is a bit hidden.
It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings is to search things out. Proverbs 25.2
