Home Group Lesson 3

NEW YEAR, NEW WINE!

In this year (2019) the 1st day of Aviv, the true Rosh Hashanah – Head of the year, begins at the sunset of April 5th, according to the Biblical calendar. Together with that we welcome the season of our deliverance, with Pêssach, HaBikkurim and Shavuot – spring feasts and harvest of our first fruits – the spring of our salvation!

Aviv means spring, and relates to the barley harvest.

A Shabbat of double celebration, as it is the beginning of the biblical year, and  Shabbat!

“So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Psalms 90:12

On Exodus 12.2 we read: “This month shall be for you the beginning of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you.”

Observe the month of Aviv and keep the Passover to the Lord your God, for in the month of Aviv the Lord your God brought you out of Egypt by night.” Deuteronomy 16.1

Exodus 13.3-4   also mentions the name of the first month: ” Then Moses said to the people, “Remember this day in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of slavery, for by a strong hand the Lord brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten. Today, in the month of Aviv, you are going out.”

Currently we call the first month “Nisan”, however this name is only mentioned in Nehemiah 2.1In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was before him, I took up the wine and gave it to the king. Now I had not been sad in his presence.” and Ester 3.7 “In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, they cast lots) before Haman day after day; and they cast it month after month till the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.” . This happens because the names of the months were changed after the Babylonian exile.

The Word tells us about Babylon and its abominations, it is a false prophet and deceives the people with half-truths.

“For all nations have drunk the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have grown rich from the power of her luxurious living. Then I heard another voice from heaven saying. Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues;” Revelation 18:3-4

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving. See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits[of the world, and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:6-8

Many celebrate the “Jewish” New Year in September/October, on the biblical feast, Yom Teruah but this happens in the seventh month:

“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, on the first day of the month, you shall observe a day of solemn rest, a memorial proclaimed with blast of trumpets, a holy convocation.” Leviticus 23:24

So, if tonight is New Year, how to celebrate then?

There is a commandment for every beginning/head of the month (Rosh Chodesh) or Day/Feast of the new moon.

“On the day of your gladness also, and at your appointed feasts and at the beginnings of your months, you shall blow the trumpets over your burnt offerings and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings. They shall be a reminder of you before your God: I am the Lord your God.” Numbers 10:10

This commandment is forgotten by many of us, but in other verses, we see that it is given the same importance as to Shabbat and Holidays.

“Behold, I am about to build a house for the name of the Lord my God and dedicate it to him for the burning of incense of sweet spices before him, and for the regular arrangement of the showbread, and for burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths and the new moons and the appointed feasts of the Lord our God, as ordained forever for Israel.” 2 Chronicles 2:4

(The beginning of months always takes place in the beginning of the new moon.)

“saying, “When will the new moon be over, that we may sell grain? And the Sabbath, that we may offer wheat for sale, that we may make the ephah small and the shekel great and deal deceitfully with false balances”Amos 8:5

“Thus says the Lord God: The gate of the inner court that faces east shall be shut on the six working days, but on the Sabbath day it shall be opened, and on the day of the new moon it shall be opened.” Ezequiel 46:1

This Rosh Chodesh of 1st of Aviv is also called Rosh Chodashim (head of the months).

Let us celebrate with the sound of the Shofar, Worship, Prayer and offerings, blessing the new biblical year. May we blossom and bear much fruit. May we also have a heart prepared for Pesach on the 14th of Aviv. (Leviticus 23.5)

“My beloved speaks and says to me: Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away, for behold, the winter is past; the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth, the time of singing has come, and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our land. The fig tree ripens its figs, and the vines are in blossom; they give forth fragrance. Arise, my love, my beautiful one, and come away. O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, in the crannies of the cliff, let me see your face, let me hear your voice, for your voice is sweet, and your face is lovely.”Song of Songs 2:10-14

Thank God many Gentiles believers in Yeshua have approached the Jewish people desiring to celebrate the biblical feasts.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.” Zechariah 8.23

Even so there is still a path ahead to what is called “fullness of the Gentiles” in Romans 11.25.  “Lest you be wise in your own sight, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery, brothers: a partial hardening has come upon Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in.”

The fullness is not about quantity but quality, i.e. the Gentiles believers be full in the understanding and practice of the Scriptures provoking Jews to jealousy and then all Israel shall be saved – Romans 11.26 “And in this way all Israel will be saved, as it is written, “The Deliverer will come from Zion,
he will banish ungodliness from Jacob””

Let`s keep the TIMES and SEASONS of the Lord. If he set dates, it’s because he wants to have a meeting with us on those dates. Not before or after.

“And you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” Mark 13:13

May the glory of the Lord be poured out in our homes, promoting the beginning of His healing process, with repentance, deliverance, renewing and anointing for the praise and honor of His Name.

May the messianic Jews and Gentiles be awakened to this new time appointed by the Lord, set as the beginning of the months, celebrating life and renewal of covenant, with renewed expectations, a time for the celebration of a new beginning!
