Calendar – Introduction

For some years, we have wanted to create a calendar that is more based on the Bible and less influenced by pagan Babylonian dates.

In addition to the moadim (Holy Convocations), we have included dates that commemorate events in modern history or honor important people to the history of Israel and Zionism.

God calls the months of the biblical year by their numbers, with the exception of the first month – Aviv, the second month – Ziv, the seventh month – Ethanim and the eighth month – Bul. These names are related to the nature and its seasons.

The months of the traditional Jewish calendar are mostly based on Babylonian names inherited from the exile. Many of these terms are names of pagan idols. Some of these month names are found in post-exilic books such as Esther, Zechariah, among others.

We decided to use the 4 names chosen by God and numbers for most of the remaining months, with the exception of Av, Elul, Kislev and Adar.

Our prayer is that you will study and get ready for these dates that are not only important for us, Israeli Jews, but also for the “Ruth” Church in the Nations, which loves and walks alongside Israel.

Note: According to the book of Genesis, God created “evening and morning” (in that order). The day begins at sunset (erev).

Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening (erev) and the morning (boker) were the first day.
